Stuck on the Couch
Blog April 23, 2023Hi all:
This past Wednesday I had a significant surgery. Although laparoscopic, it was a big deal both physically and emotionally. For a couple of reasons, mostly related to my 2017 breast cancer and ensuing five years on Tamoxifen, I had my uterus and Fallopian tubes removed. It was day surgery and it seems that my gynecologist/surgeon did a great job. (I especially love her because whenever we talk, she rails against the patriarchy.) I was home that afternoon and well taken care of by my mom. The pain was minimal although there certainly was discomfort. The toughest part of any surgery (for me) is the slowing down. I’ve been outside on a few short walks and even had to climb a ladder at 2:30 in the morning to change a smoke detector battery, but the rules are no real movement for a couple of weeks. That leaves lots of time to plot and plan late spring, summer, and fall adventures. Right now on my list: paddling and camping near Rangeley; biking the Down East Sunrise Trail; overnight kayaking and island camping in Muscongus Bay, and hiking, hiking, hiking. Do you have big or little summer excursions planned?
Another LAC member was wondering if a small group would like to gather for a walk, tea or picnic to delve further into the issues we grapple with about food, exercise, and our bodies. If being part of this conversation appeals to you, send me a note.
This email arrived in the Ladies Adventure Club inbox and I’m sharing with you all in case you know of someone who would like to participate in this project.
My name is Chen, a Chinese queer photographer in NYC. I am traveling to Maine this summer for a personal photo project about queer people of color. I really respect what you do for the community and hope you can help me to reach out to more people. Would you please share this GoogleDoc with your members?

Side note, thanks to my community for the dinners (my fridge is overflowing with food and love) and for the daily dog walks. Alfredo and Fannie say big thanks.
