June is National Great Outdoors Month. In celebration of Maine and the great outdoors, we’ve partnered with Polartec and local land trusts to create a community building LAC Summer Land Trust Bingo activity designed to inspire and encourage you, our members, to make plans to get outdoors this summer. Take on this challenge solo or with a friend/fellow LAC member and visit local land trust properties all over our wonderful state.

On Saturday, June 11th (National Get Outdoors Day) the bingo card will be available to you on our website, our private Facebook page and on Instagram. We’ll include all of the rules for play and the prizes you can win including LAC gear, a women’s Osprey backpack, and gift cards. The deadline to submit your completed bingo card is Wednesday, August 31st.

On Thursday, September 8th we’ll gather together at Allagash Brewing Company to chat over a drink, compare bingo cards, notes from the trail, and share stories from our summer adventures. We’ll also draw the prize winners and give awards for the first person to get BINGO and the first person to complete her entire card.

Summer often slips away; grab all that you can this year. Join us in setting a goal to get outside, breathe in the fresh air, rally your friends to join you, and make a list of the local land trusts, trails, campsites and climbs you didn’t get to last summer and put them on the calendar!

The LAC is partnering with L.L. Bean on Wednesday, July 13th for a LAC-only sunset/full moon tandem kayak adventure led by the Outdoor Discovery Program folks.

Time: 7-10 p.m.

Leaves from L.L. Bean’s paddling center in Freeport

All paddling gear provided

Cost is $79/person

Time: Meet at 5:00 p.m. for a 2.5-3.0 mile walk (trailhead TBD). 6:30 BYO picnic on the beach. 7:30ish Ice cream at Kettle Cove Creamery.

You are welcome to join for all or some of the evening. Bring your favorite blanket, beach/camp chair, and, if you’d like, invite a female friend (maybe someone new to Portland).
