Writer Katy Kelleher joined the LAC for a hike up Bald and Speckled Mountains and then published her article in the July issue of the Old Port Magazine. Take a peek at her piece right below; click on the images below for a larger view.
REI CO-OP’s Journal (Stories of a Life Outdoors) recently published ‘The Nature Fix: Why We’re Hardwired for Adventure‘, speaking to and learning more about Gillian Schair and the Ladies Adventure Club.
“I feel more alive when I adventure,” Schair told me recently. “I spent a good portion of my life being a little bit afraid, not willing to take risks. Then in my 30s, I decided I don’t have to be perfect. It’s okay to take risks and fail. It opened up something inside of me and made me feel energized and thrilled. Being a little outside our comfort zone pushes our interior envelopes a bit.”
The clip below is from Erin Ovalle’s show, MaineLife, which airs every Sunday morning at 11:30 on WCSH & WLBZ. At the end of May, Erin hiked with the LAC at Ovens Mouth Preserve in Boothbay – we had a great time chatting with her and sharing what makes the LAC so special.
“You can’t grow if you just sit still,” says Gillian Schair of Portland. “You can’t summit a mountain, learn to surf, or try your hand at archery without first making a bold decision to leave the house – and your comfort zone.”
