The Ladies Adventure Club offers women access to a network of guides, leaders, outdoor enthusiasts, and nature lovers who value community and outdoor adventure. We want to share our collective knowledge, education, experiences and resources. Through our social media platform, website, and blog we provide inspirational ideas, events and opportunities for women to adventure throughout Maine and New England on their own or in the company of other LAC members.
The Ladies Adventure Club values community and showcases opportunities to adventures throughout Maine and New England. We are women who care about adventure and seek ways to educate ourselves and grow as adventurers.
The Ladies Adventure Club was established in 2015 in the living room of our founder who brought together a group of women seeking more adventure, connections and community in their lives.. The membership was small and we adventured together once a month. Quickly though, with positive press and through word of mouth, the membership grew rapidly and the number of monthly adventures skyrocketed. Fast forward to winter 2021. Our organization swelled to 250 members and we hosted 10-13 adventures a month (even throughout the pandemic!) led by amazing volunteer guides. Over the years, our adventures have included: hiking; sea kayaking; snow shoeing; biking; cross-country skiing; ice climbing; smelting; curling; archery; paddle boarding; walking; mountain biking, and more hiking (lots of hiking). We closed the membership component of our organization on the solstice of 2021 and have taken some time to rethink, reflect and revise our mission and values. The LAC has pivoted and will remain a hub for adventure, a virtual community of adventurous women, and will continue to offer resources and reflections on adventuring. Founder and Lead Organizer Gillian’s favorite TV character and role model is Miss Phryne Fisher. She represents the kind of adventurer she strives to be – and if you know who Phyrne is, you probably want to be like her too.
Gillian Schair is the founder of the LAC and a full-time mom to two teenagers. She is a huge enthusiast of Maine winter recreation, a lover of mystery novels and is trying to become a happier, less fussy runner. She’s hiked in Peru, Bhutan and through the Italian Dolomites and has spent lots of time in the Maine woods, on the ocean, and in the mountains. Her passion for being outside started as a girl and has only grown since she started the LAC in 2015.
Kate Burnham is a Maine native. Her love of the outdoors began with hut to hut hiking trips in the White Mountains. Kate is a founding member of the Ladies Adventure Club, recently participated in the AMC Women’s Leadership Course and is certified in Wilderness First Aid. When she isn’t busy strategizing about the LAC, she can be found hiking, paddle boarding, kayaking, bicycling, snowshoeing, skiing and traveling.

Meg Clews was born and raised in Maine, exploring the outdoors from a young age with frequent family hikes on the trails of Acadia National Park. Summers were spent as a camp counselor at Quaker camp where she led trips to the Bigelow mountain range, the Mahoosucs, and sections of the Long Trail. She moved to Maine in 2006 with her family and hasn’t looked back. When not at her day job for Falmouth Schools, she can usually be found outside doing anything she can convince her 3 teenage kids to do with her. Hiking with their dogs, skiing, boating, camping and pier jumping still rank cool enough with the teens, although who knows what next season will bring. Jen is Wilderness First Responder certified.
