On the Move, Move, Move
AdventureBlogHiking July 23, 2023Hi all:
I’ve been a bit over-extended recently. And the flip side is that I’m incredibly filled up. The question I’m grappling with is how to calm down (sit still) while there are so many exciting adventures to grab and new spots to explore. In the past two weeks I’ve paddled and swum in Camden, hiked on Monhegan Island, walked the trails and watched a mountain bike race in Carrabassett Valley, hiked Caribou Mountain, paddled, hiked, and explored the environs of Blue Hill, and next weekend, I’ll overnight kayak in Muscongus Bay. It’s all been amazing and I also miss my kids (not entirely sure that they miss me) and feel guilty about not spending more time with my dogs and taking care of my home. I could say that this newly discovered element called sunshine is to blame, but that’s not entirely true; I’m an over planner or maybe I’m a grabber of opportunity. It’s partly that I love being active and although tough to admit, partly because I’m nervous to sit still. I’ve written about FOMO (and JOMO) before and I think that plays a part in my go, go, go nature. This is a question I could sit with and meditate on because I bet there are deeper issues at play and it would be healthy and helpful to examine them. But right now, I need to pack my bag, vacate my generous friend’s beautiful and serene cottage where Ann and I’ve been staying and visiting Catherine for the past two nights because at 10:00 a.m. (today is Saturday), Ann and I are departing for Acadia for a carriage road bike ride and a hike tomorrow. I’ve never been to Acadia (I know, I know) and I’m excited to explore with Ann who has spent umpteen hours there and knows it super well. I’ll slow it down on Monday… or at least I’ll try.
Join us for our next LAC community adventure on August 10th. We’ll take the 4:30 p.m. Casco Bay Lines ferry to Peaks Island, walk the island, and then you can order pizza at Il Leone (delicious wood-fired pizzas). There’s a return ferry at 7:45 p.m. and another at 8:45 p.m.
Upcoming Community (not all LAC) Adventures – These are not LAC adventures (except for the ones that say, “LAC”). These are adventures we’re sharing that are put-on by other orgs. If you have ideas for the calendar or want to organize an LAC community adventure, please send me a note.
