Maturity = Wisdom (on occasion)
BikingBlog July 15, 2023Hi all:
I’m up at Sugarloaf this weekend watching the Carrabassett Backcountry Cycle Challenge (HUGE kudos to LACer Susie K. for riding in it, kicking ass, and coming in second in her age group (50+) and ride distance (25K)) and a few people have asked if I were riding today. The answer is a big no. 1) I’m not a mountain biker and 2) races intimidate me and frustrate me. I have an intense perfection streak (that I’m trying to ease up on) and I’m never as fit or as fast as I want to be so the combo is annoying. It was a pleasure walking the course, chatting with friends, finding swimming spots for the dogs and not worrying once about my physical capabilities. As I age, I realize that I’m not excited about competing and that’s okay. I’m finding joy and inspiration in witnessing other’s success; a gift of maturity.
As an aside, here’s an article I thought you’d enjoy. It relates to the earlier post about bodies in sports.
