Hi all:

You may know that I have a thing for honey bees. I’m mostly enamored with them and sometimes I’m really pissed off at them. But I’m always in awe of them. Did you know that a hive of bees must fly 55,000 miles to produce a pound of honey and that one bee colony can produce 60 to 100 pounds of honey per year (I don’t think mine produce that much though — slackers). Also, an average worker bee makes only about 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime. So these bees work really hard and don’t have any time to recreate. Unlike us, 100% of their life is in service, devoted to their hive. We on the other hand, do make time in our lives for play, adventure and exploration. And this is important to both our mental and physical health. I believe that by adventuring, we are better and happier parents, partners, friends, workers, and members of our own communities. I’m hopeful that being part of the LAC has given you one path to discovering adventures that excite and engage you — with a group of fabulous women.
