Summer Hike Up Tumbledown Mountain
Blog July 24, 2016Hi all:
The Tumbledown Mountain hike was a big success and although it is a popular hike it was new to a number of us. There were six of us hiking yesterday: Nori, Ann, Sara, Stephanie, Julie and me. On the hike up we all admitted to being a little worried that yesterday’s high (and in my opinion unbearable) temps would carry on into today, but happily, we were hiking in perfectly comfortable weather. Not to say I didn’t sweat a bit on the way up. We hiked for about an hour and a half, carefully avoiding Fannie’s (my dog) attempts to knock us off the trail. During the last bit we scrambled over boulders, but after those climbing over the big rocks we emerged to WOW! a beautiful mountain-top lake and great views. Ann and I took a swim and we all jumped into lunch. Hiking mountains makes for hungry hikers. We spent a good amount of time enjoying the views and taking a well-deserved rest. The hike down was easy once we passed the boulders (aging knees aren’t great on the descent). The rain showers, thunder and lightning waited to begin until we were tucked into our cars. We had a great group hiking today and it made me hungry for more hikes and happy to know that both Maine and New Hampshire offer plenty of options. I’ll pour through the AMC book this evening looking for more LAC adventures.
Happy adventuring,
